His sermon “The Mystery of the Prayer Shawl” is available on CD. “The tallit, or prayer shawl, designed by God, has been worn by devout Jews for centuries,” his Web site explains. “Its legacy is woven throughout the Old and New Testaments. It still carries the power to energize your prayer life.” For $49, believers can also buy a blue-and-gold tallit made in the Holy Land. Hagee fervently supports Israel, believes that the Jews must return there before Jesus will come again and claimed in a 1999 sermon that prophesies in the Old Testament proved that God enabled the Holocaust. “God allowed it to happen,” Hagee said. “God said, ‘My top priority to the Jewish people is to get them to come back to the land of Israel.’ ”

Photo

the strokes - under control

Tomorrow the last semester of my current studies starts, and I’ll continue to develop my city (above is the draft 1:5000). Our tutors say that it’s unprofessional to call it ‘my city’ but I don’t care.

It’s grief to recognize once again, that most of what we do in the institute is senseless. I can’t say that I love my city, not because I designed it badly, but because from the first day I was against the challenge of designing such cities. On the one hand, it is useful, because you can somehow see the whole system, more primitive than actual systems, although perfect for training. On the other hand, your project is so far away from contemporary urbanism that you can work it out only whether you forgot about reality… However, contrary to artificiality of the initial challenge, it would be wrong to say that I am learning nothing useful. I continue to identify new relationships between diversal urban elements and deal with relatively real obstacles to realize my goals. But each second of working where I work now, I know what I’m allowed to do and what is senseless to propose simply because in such case designing would turn into the infinite struggle, as it happened many times before. I’ve already got used to these limits and humbly waiting for a day when I’ll gain freedom and diploma.

I want to draw brief conclusions for what is already done. As a planner, I know very well, that everything must have reason. I can strongly argue in favor of my my design, but up to a certain point, after which I can’t explain it further. I have only overall requirement, important for me, to connect existing settlements in order to support life there, but with the last one on the north-eastern end I actually can’t do that, thus it remains as remote as before. I proposed for that settlement a specific purpose, which in my mind requires outlying location, and to some extent it explains that, but not completely. Then, on another bank I also located some specific objects, and ultimately they all are not populous enough to reason bridges, even as elements of regional roads network. I am worrying a lot about their groundlessness, and indifference of the supervisors angers me. This is an essential mistake, which could in case of realisation lead to wrong development of the entire site, but nobody shouts at me why I’ve done that. The same thing in this way is H-shape connections. Generally, I need a fast link through the river approximately in that place, but I know, that if T-crossing occurs somewhere, it easily can (=will) grow to X-cross, what will impact negatively on the natural reserve on the north. And the chief is that I don’t believe in the perspective of rural development anywhere. For sure, sustainable-for-now city must be compact, dense, accessible, focused on creativity… But seems that not this time, when we are forced to design provincial cities, and moreover, not somehow alternatively provincial, but conventional outlying cities, with a reason that they are better than contemporary russian high-rise suburbs, just as easy as ‘B, because no A, and vice versa’.

That’s really cool but this looks like a dick

Photo

Destroyer - Thief

Destroyer - Thief

Photo

dekutree:

Throughout the conversations I have taped and analyzed, New York listeners punctuate a speaker’s talk with comments, reactions, questions (often asking for the very information that is obviously about to come). None of this makes the New York speaker stop. On the contrary, he talks even more—louder, faster—and has even more fun, because he doesn’t feel he’s in the conversation alone. When a non-New Yorker stops talking at the first sign of participation from the New Yorker, he’s the one who’s creating the interruption, making a conversational bully out of a perfectly well-intentioned cooperative overlapper.”

mumblesauce:
